Leaders must show integrity – Nana Konadu

Former First lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, has called on leaders in office and those offering themselves to be elected to display a high sense of integrity, an ingredient she says Ghana needs at this stage of her development. According to her, integrity and openness are important elements of leadership that will propel the country’s development agenda. Nana Konadu, also the Leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP), noted that, citizens have a responsibility to elect leaders with  integrity to steer the affairs of the country. Speaking at a lecture for students at the University of Ghana- Legon, Nana Konadu underscored the importance of open and inclusive leadership saying, “Leadership always has to be open because if you are going to close in as if you are the only person who has the ability to think, then you are literally killing the spirit of Ghanaians and I think that is wrong and I definitely will not ascribe to anything like that.” “Individual leaders need to have immense integrity at all levels of our national development. It is the benchmark to which we measure the ethics, the morality and the value systems of our leaders.” she added. The former first lady further urged Ghanaians to look out for these strong values in the leaders they seek to elect. “It is the responsibility of all us that we choose the leaders who among other things will abide by these value systems and abide by the constitution and definitely not bring the nation and their high office into disrepute
