“GOD’S VINEYARD”
FOR READING: Isaiah 5:1-7
MEMORY VERSE:
“You brought a vine out of Egypt, You drove out the nations and planted it” - Psalm 80:8
In the Old Testament, the “Vineyard” was used figuratively to refer to the nation of Israel. (Ref. Psalm 80:8-12). God brought the nation of Israel out of Egypt, drove out other nations and planted Israel.
By His divine power and providence He protected and nurtured these former slaves into a formidable nation. God’s intention was to make Israel a model of righteousness, justice and peace. He gave them just, humane and equitable laws so that Israel will be an example of godliness, a land where integrity, social justice and moral uprightness prevailed.
Israel failed God miserably, the nation chased after the Canaanite gods, became embroiled in idol worship with its attendant detestable acts. The nation became a haven for bloodshed, oppression, injustice and sexual immorality.
God expresses His indignation and disappointment at His vineyard, and warns of judgment.
In the same vein, we have received the new birth to be a model of good works (Ephesians 2:10), to show forth the glory of God.
MEDITATION
• Is my life pleasing to God?
• Am I disappointing by the things I do and say?
PRAYER
Dear Lord, make my lifestyle pleasing unto you.
THOUGHT
The life that pleases GOD also glorifies Him.
The surest way to know God.......
