Dzifa Aku Ativor's Comments Divisive, Barbaric ...

Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC) Reverend Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante has condemned recent comments made by former Minister of Transport Dzifa Aku Ativor. Mrs Ativor is reported to have told a group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters that a New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in 2017 will arrest some of them just like in 2001, when the NPP assumed the reins of government. Speaking at the launch of ‘Ketu South for Fifi and Mahama’ at Wodoaba in the Ketu South Constituency, the former minister, who resigned her position as a result of the Metro Mass Transit bus rebranding saga, said the NPP will arrest Ewes like her and Fifi Fiavi Kwetey – Member of Parliament for the Constituency – if the Volta Region does not vote to retain the NDC. But in an interview on TV3 on Tuesday, April 26, Rev. Prof. Asante said the comments were “divisive”, “barbaric and doesn't help anybody". “These are the things that create tension in society and it must be condemned,” he said. He expressed confidence in the “intelligent” people of the Volta Region to vote not on tribal lines but on issues. According to him, Ms Ativor’s comments are characteristic of politicians who have no better message for electorates and those persons should not be considered for election. “It is hitting below the belt,” the immediate past Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana insisted.
