DATE: FRIDAY 29 APRIL, 2016
TOPIC: LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR
TEXT: LEVITICUS 19:18
'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.
BODY
Who is your neighbor? What comes into your mind when you are asked this question is one who lives near you. Neighbor is not always defined as such. "Neighbor" refers to anyone we come into contact, and not just someone who lives near us. Coming into contact with a brother or sister for the first time makes him or her your neighbor. And Jesus emphasizes the same thing in the parable of the good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-27).
This commandment regulating Israel's treatment of others was cited by Christ (Matthew 22:39). Loving one's neighbor include loving foreigners and resident aliens who come to live in one's community. God himself loved the Israelites while they were aliens, and he expects us to do the same. He is a kind of God who wants to bless all the nations of the world (John 3:16). Tomorrow God willing we will look at the Part 2. Keep following!
