And the second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself (NIV)
BODY
I want us to look at the Part 2 and the final part of our topic; love your neighbor. Jesus Christ strengthened the law God gave to Moses by telling them (His followers) to love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus Christ himself declared that; He has not come to abolish the law of the Prophets but to strengthen them. In Leviticus 19:18, the law was spoken of as not to seek revenge or bear a grudge but love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus Christ also spoke of two great commandments. First to love the Lord God with all our heart, soul and mind. And second to love your neighbor as yourself.
Children of God are required to love all people, including their enemies (Matthew 5:44). We are also commanded to love all true born-again Christians in a special way (Galatians 5:10). The love of believers for their enemies must be subordinated to, and controlled and directed by, their loving affection for and devotion to God. Love for God is the "first and greatest commandment". Therefore, in our practice of love for all people, we must never compromise the supremacy of our love for God and righteous standards of His word. This is because He first loved us. Amen.
